Social Learning Groups
Every learner who joins Mission Cognition brings their own strengths, interests, communication style, and experiences. Before recommending a group, we take time to understand each individual so we can thoughtfully determine where they are most likely to feel successful, supported, and connected.
Group placement considers developmental readiness, age, social strengths, areas for growth, interests, and interpersonal compatibility. We think carefully about the dynamic of every group because who a learner is paired with matters. When participants feel understood, enjoy being with the people around them, and experience success together, social learning becomes more natural. Authentic relationships then have the opportunity to develop over time.
For many participants, these groups provide experiences they have had few opportunities to develop elsewhere. As familiarity grows and relationships deepen, social interaction becomes more natural, confidence increases, and genuine friendships often begin to emerge.
Every group is intentionally designed around the developmental needs of the learners participating in it. Through our Connectingโข, Buildingโข, and Relatingโข framework, participants receive individualized support within a small-group environment that reflects their current social development while creating clear opportunities for continued growth.
We believe meaningful progress begins by meeting learners where they are. By following motivation, building on strengths, and targeting skills that are functional and relevant to everyday life, we create learning experiences that are engaging, purposeful, and meaningful. As participants grow, our groups evolve with them, providing ongoing opportunities to strengthen relationships, increase independence, and build lasting social competence.
Group Frameworks

Connecting Group
Connectingโข groups are designed for learners developing foundational social participation. Instruction focuses on helping learners discover that other people are interesting, predictable, and enjoyable partners in play. Through relationship-based teaching, we build shared attention, early reciprocity, play, communication, and positive peer experiences that become the foundation for later friendships.

Bridging Group
Bridgingโข groups support learners who are ready to move beyond playing alongside peers toward participating with them. Activities emphasize associative play, entry-level cooperative games, conversational reciprocity, flexible responding, and structured group participation while maintaining the individualized supports each learner needs.

Relating Group
Relatingโข groups support learners who are ready to build, strengthen, and maintain meaningful relationships across a variety of people, settings, and experiences. Instruction focuses on advanced communication, perspective taking, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, self-advocacy, and the skills needed to navigate increasingly complex social situations with confidence and independence.
